» » MINISTRY OF WATER AND IRRIGATION, GIZ SIGNED THE IMPLEMENTATION AGREEMENT

Sanga Rulea 5:38 AM 0

Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) have signed the Implementation Agreement at the Ministry’s HQ at Ubungo, yesterday.

The agreement outlines the interventions that will be carried out within the framework of Technical Cooperation between the Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Speaking at the signing ceremony the Ministry of Water and Irrigation’s Permanent Secretary, Eng. Mbogo Futakamba said that, with GIZ’s support, several instruments for policy coordination and implementation have been put in place, including the Water Supply and Sanitation Regulations and the Water Sector Programme Implementation Manual.

Eng. Futakamba continued by saying, the current 3-year cycle of GIZ’s support to the Water Sector Programme, which runs from March 2016 to February 2019 with a funding envelop of Euro 9.5 million, will concentrate on a number of distinct working areas of Sectoral Framework and Sector Finance, Urban Water Supply and Sanitation, Regulatory Framework and Climate-Sensitive Water Resources Management.

Meanwhile, the GIZ Country Director, Dr. Regine Qualmann said that, it is in the interest of the Government of Germany that, through effective cooperation with Tanzanian Government the implementation of the GIZ supported water sector development programme will achieve its intended objectives and targets, and to do so in a sustainable manner. As we will always support Tanzania and its development as far as our cooperation is concerned.

The cooperation between Tanzania and Germany existed since 1975, and it has been guided by a shared vision of promoting Tanzania’s development in a sustainable manner. Over the years, the focus and priorities have somewhat changed, in order to adapt to changing conditions and priorities on site, but also to take on board changing global initiatives and development agendas.

Yesterdays’ signing ceremony signalled the continuation of the joint commitment of the two Governments, towards accomplishing some of the unfinished global commitments of the (8) Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which have now been reformulated into (17) measurable Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), under the Global Agenda for 2030.
